知識論乃哲學基礎領域之一。我們人類都珍視知識，花費很多時間和精力追求知識。但，這是為了什麼呢？哲學家在進行知識論探究時，試圖發掘問題並提供解答。這些包括：(1)知識的可能性：我們人類有知識嗎？有可能獲得知識嗎？(2)知識的來源：如果我們人類擁有知識，我們是如何獲得知識的？(3)知識的要件：什麼是知識（而不僅僅只是信念）？(4)知識證立和理性的關係是什麼？(5)後設知識論：知識論的研究本身是什麼樣的研究？本門課將引領學生進入知識論的領域、解說各種研究議題。
Epistemology (or theory of knowledge) is one of the foundational areas in philosophy. We all value knowledge and spend much of our energy and time in pursuing it. But why? In pursuing the epistemological inquiries philosophers have been trying to sort out the problems and solutions. The major issues concerned are: (1) Is it possible for us humans to acquire knowledge (the Possibility of human knowledge)? (2) If possible, how can or do we acquire knowledge (the Sources of human knowledge)? (3) What is knowledge (the Nature of human knowledge)? (4) How is knowledge related to epistemic Justification and to epistemic Rationality? (5) What is the epistemological inquiry itself (Meta-epistemology)? This course is intended to give an introductory guide into this fascinating but puzzling area.
